Review : Creep

CREEP(2005)
rating : **********

It happen to you as well?

Starting a movie and not managing, to finish the goddamn thing? It happens to me rarely, unless the movie is awfully bad, but there are two specific movies being The Descent and Creep. Both British horror movies I couldn't finish or lost interest in, not even halfway the movie got started. For some reason I tend to loose interest an
d then a movie gets shoven to the back of my dvd rack. Begging me for that second chance.

For example, The Descent by which it took me over a half year before i gave it a second chance. And it was all worth it, not being aware of which nasty turns it could take, once the caves turned themselves into a labyrinth of bloodied dampy swamps filled with inbreed nasty fuckers. That night, The Descent instantly grew out to become amongst my favorite British horror
movies ever, that second chance made it all worth the time and effort. It's cool when a movie manages to surprise you and takes you on a rollercoaster of different turns and twists, to fuck with your expectations, even after that second try. Giving the movie a chance to unfold itself after a first failure.

Makes you want to kick yourself in the head. For missing out on great movies that way. So save those movies up and watch them in parts whenever you feel like watching them, if you happen to loose interest. Less chance on missing out.

So last week I ran into an online Creep trailer and I this feeling, maybe I missed out on this movie as well? And decided to give it a worthy second chance this week. Or maybe I was just plain bored?

So here we go... So Kate crashes at a party. And she's bragging to some friends that she's going out to meet George Clooney with a friend of her to get his autograph (ooow), however her friend (who we don't get to see) left already the party with a taxi. (bummer huh). So after the party, she's left alone and heads up to the local undergound railway station where she meets up with some bums and gets followed by a male friend from the party who seems to have an unhealthy crush for her. While waiting for her metro Kate falls asleep, wakes up and finds herself locked up in the underground metro station.

Alone? Guess not. Stalked by her friend (who probably spend all night waiting in a closed down railstation) for Kate to wake up she gets harrased inside the metro and, yeah payback time for him as well as some dark villain creature is out on a slashing rampage. Somebody is killing and deep down the underworld people
are dying.

Anyways.... I did loose interest again, while my mind wandered constantly for other things, like good food and grilled tofu stripes with baked potatoes. The first 30 minutes ARE pretty much a drag. And I totally understand the reason why people tend to loose interest in this movie. O
nce the evil villain gets uncovered it gets better. People get caged and locked up, fed to some other monster as well. And people fight back to the monster, while probably some other villain monsters show up as well, but they look all look the same. It's confusing.

At times this movie draggs you around a small path of unanswered ques
tions and happenings.
It confused me at a certain point. If the director would have been spending a little more time on the depth of the characters I think the movie definitely could have been better. The synopsis of this movie is pretty much people running away from evil villains deep down the underground. And don't touch the rails. It might kill ya.

It's not bad, but forgettable. Guess I was bored after all?
